Usual Arrangements

Contact/residence arrangements vary widely. The amount of contact given to a young baby will obviously be different from that which is given to a teenager. How much time is suitable depends on the age of the children, the work and recreational activities of each parent and of the children and where each parent lives. The wishes of each parent should be considered by the other and if there is some difficulty a compromise should be worked out. For younger children it is generally accepted they should see their contact parent more regularly perhaps for shorter periods. A typical arrangement for children is one day each weekend or alternative weekends for the whole weekend. If convenient some period during the week, either overnight or not, may be added. Often school holidays are shared and special contact is arranged for events such as Christmas and birthdays. It is to be emphasised that the above are examples only.
