Farrar Gesini Dunn Annual Charity Golf Day

Gold Creek Country Club Golf Course 23 November, 2017

What a glorious day for our Charity Golf Day and what a worthy cause to be playing for.

This year we chose Karinya House to be the recipient of all funds raised on the day.

Karinya House is a local Canberra organisation that provides in house and outreach support to women in need who are pregnant and/or have very young children. This support ranges from housing, education, medical and midwifery, to facilitating contact with other service providers such as lawyers and psychologists. They provide support for women who have no support network of their own, who may be otherwise homeless and unable to look after themselves and specifically women who are facing language and skill barriers and are often victims of domestic violence.

Gold Creek Country Club was beautifully verdant. Sweeping fairways with magnificent views over Canberra to the Brindabella Mountains in the distance. Kangaroos to be dodged, lounging on the fairway, and duck ponds busy with ducks and ducklings.

Twenty four teams filled up on delicious food whilst having the classic ambrose rules explained. Ambrose rules allow for all teams to play to their best potential. It doesn’t matter if you are a pro or a beginner. Everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the best score card. The best of every stroke goes onto the card. A pro may slice the ball whilst the beginner flukes a winner.

It’s a great sight watching 48 golf carts all heading off at once to their designated starting points. All pursued by the drinks cart which was loaded with delicious nectarines and apples thanks to Ziggy’s generosity. Snickers, Mars bars and cold bottles of water thanks to Blue Ink and stacks of cold cans of beer and ginger beer thanks to BentSpoke Brewers.

To break up the course for the non competitive players and to challenge the pros there were fun holes ‘swap your club’ for a cricket bat, BentSpoke set up a Beer Tasting Gazebo, nearest the pin competition, longest drive and Happy Gilmore hole. This involved a compulsory 3 meter run up and swing, it was great to watch. The 15th was ‘Beat Dunny’. Prior to tee off Jim Dunn, our CEO, drove the ball as far as he could down the fairway – beat that shot and win a bottle of something special.

The golf carts with their exhilarated occupants began arriving back at the clubhouse just before five. More delicious food and drinks and the awarding of prizes, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors.

Farrar Gesini Dunn wish to thank all those who participated, sponsored, and contributed to our Annual Charity Golf Day. It would not happen without you.
